HARRY STYLES has sparked a transatlantic debate over his fondness for dressing in women’s clothes after appearing on the cover of Vogue in the US.
The singer, 26, made history as the style bible’s first male cover star in its 127-year history. And he did it wearing a dress.
Harry spoke of his love for ladies’ fashion in his interview with the mag, saying: “I’ll go in shops sometimes and find myself looking at the women’s clothes, thinking they’re amazing.”
But conservative US media pundit Candace Owens blasted the cover, while issuing a call to “bring back manly men”.

IF clothes make the man, as the saying goes, then Harry Styles is a very interesting bloke indeed.
The man who Miley Cyrus called “hot no matter what” has slipped into a few dresses and proved Miley was spot-on.
Because, as the controversial Vogue shoot shows, there is nothing sexier than someone who is entirely comfortable in their own skin.
These pictures aren’t just about what Harry is wearing. It’s about how he wears it.
The stoical expression that says: “I’m cool with this...what else you got?”
Those fascinating messy tattoos exposed above the laced neckline of that Gucci dress.
These are strangely hypnotising to a heterosexual woman like myself.
The stubble and chest hair, meanwhile, reveal Harry can still be “alpha” when he wants to be.
Harry is a cool guy. By that, I mean if he wasn’t famous and instead worked in your local pub or post office, he would still be an intriguing prospect.
You can’t buy that type of cool with the clothes you wear or the company you keep. It’s either in you, like Harry, or not...like Harry’s former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
When Harry puts on a dress, he looks cool, which is instantly sexy. It’s not the dress that is sexy but the man inside it. This shoot shows Harry is adventurous and experimental.
That makes me think he’d be both those in bed.
As Harry said in his Vogue interview: “Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with.”
I wouldn’t mind playing fancy dress with Mr Styles.
There will always be people like Piers Morgan guffawing that Harry “looks weird” in his dress.
But when a male, stale and pale TV presenter says you’re “weird”, it only gives you more kudos.

“TRENDY is the last stage before tacky.” The words of fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, late boss of Chanel, and something Harry Styles should bear in mind.
His career began with second-skin jeans and ripped T-shirts that had One Directioners swooning. But now he is turning OFF fans, myself included.
Harry has always liked to experiment with style but it seems he can’t find his own identity.
We have gone from preppy polo shirts to Keith Richards-style bandanas and open-chested shirts – even nodding to Princess Diana with that woolly jumper covered in sheep Harry wore last year.
Now he is taking style notes from his musical idol David Bowie, aiming to break boundaries with frilly collars and pearls at the Brits, or a sheer blouse and heels at the Met Gala.
But these bids to seem cool and original come across as desperate and tacky try-hard peacocking.
Instead, Harry should find his own fashion groove.
He has what it takes to pull off any look – the smile to make you weak at the knees, the floppy hair – but I don’t want to see him in a frock.
Bring back the days of rough-and-ready footballers, of rugged Sean Connery types in sharp suits who take pride in their masculine appearance.
Take a look at People magazine’s latest Sexiest Man Alive, Creed actor Michael B Jordan.
Michael has been seen on the red carpet in a floral harness and a brocade printed coat. But he wears them with tailored suits, or is seen out and about in straight-cut jeans and tees.
Everyone has the right to wear whatever they want, of course. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
In my eyes, Harry’s shoot for Vogue is beautiful.

But do I find it attractive? The answer is no.
It doesn’t make him a bad singer, less of a performer or a person. I just won’t be kissing his poster before I go to sleep.
